2010/5/1 Books

Reading list for April

I’m a natural multitasker, especially when it comes to reading. For the past month I’ve been alternating between the following three novels:

  • The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger by Stephen King – As the description on back, which inspired me to pay the pittance the used book store wanted for it, says, “This heroic fantasy is set in a world of ominous landscape and macabre menace that is a dark mirror of our own.” This is also my first Stephen King novel and I was very much impressed. I’ve got two more King novels, Hearts in Atlantis and The Tommyknockers, in the queue.
  • Get Me Out of Here by Henry SuttonGet Me Out of Here by Henry Sutton – I’m a sucker for good cover art and the typography on this one baited me while the first few pages set the hook. Sutton weaves a murderous, paranoid tale set in the present day financial crisis. I’m somewhere in the middle now and I can’t help but cringe at the idiot main character’s actions. And yet I’m compelled to proceeed.
  • Across the River and Into the Trees by Ernest Hemingway – This novel is essential Hemingway, lovely and sad. The story starts with the Colonel hunting ducks and goes on to describe his career, his failing health, and the time he spends with a young Venetian beauty, his “last true and only love.”

Do you read more than one book at a time? Do you look forward to the summer because it means more time to read what you want?
